POSSIBLY THE BEST STAG ANYWHERE

Launched in June 1970, the Triumph Stag, designed by Giovanni Michelloti, was a step into a new market for Triumph, they were aiming to take on the luxury Grand Tourer market, a market that had been the domain of the likes of Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and Aston Martin. All Triumph Stags were 2+2 Convertible Coupes with a built in roll bar that was anticipating new regulations for the all important USA market. The new regulations never materialised and the Triumph Stag continued in production until 1978 with almost 26,000 made in total.

The Australian Diplomat who bought this Triumph in 1989 with the intention of making it the best Stag in the world, commented that the Stag was “In such good condition that it almost appeared to be a shame to restore it”.

With documentation of all receipts/history since its purchase by the aforementioned owner in early 1989, this Triumph had a full restoration with the entire body stripped to bare metal, then professionally painted in Two-Pack Burgundy. All components were either renewed/refurbished or replaced including the re-chroming of every chrome part and refurbishment of all woodwork, the upholstery was re-trimmed in Connolly Leather and a new Mohair soft top was fitted.

On completion of the restoration, this Stag won not only the “Best in Class” at the Triumph Concours, but also the “Best in Show” award, and continued to win for years following. Some 30 years since the full restoration was completed, the passion and attention to detail, is still evident, and something to behold.
